We are architects. And architecture is a combination of vision and functionality. Good architecture stands on the border of two worlds: it is cast in the union of strict engineering and free artistic creation. On the one hand it is formed by clear and strong conditions: respectation of the Clients, financial limits, construction ruling and technical parameters. On the other hand free and unrestricted invention will create high art out of the space and form that is originated in the circumstances. When creating archetctural and interior designs we are mapping the juntcion of these two worlds.

Concept plan of condominium, Zamárdi, Hungary |
5th Oct 2009 |
Maximum volume in accordance with the local ruling and maximum luxury. This could be an abstract for the competition, in which ZOA participated when designing this building. A strictly square form responds to the first condition, while vast glass structures, printed forest-pattern on the shades and fluid space respond to the latter. Byproduct of all that is a super-rational floor plan that is a perfect base for cost effective construction apart from the more or less exclusive outer skin of the building. Geometrical feel of the strict shapes is compensated by the curving green structure of the cafe that looks over the lake. Thus the city could receive a new emblematic place besides five star apartments. This application was granted a shared 2nd prize behind two more conventional concepts that received the shared 1st prize.

ZOA designed this double house for the families of a brother and a sister onto the slope of the Buda hills. The two interconnected apartments have layouts that account for proper separation, proper sun light and good siting.
Apartment renovation in a listed building, Dohány utca, Budapest |
18th Feb 2009 |
Apartment renovation is a rather special species in the design kingdom. The building restricts possible floor plans, neighbors look at you suspiciously, and the owners has to get rid of habits and routines that has been part of their life for ages in the hope that they get a better looking place at the end. This situation can only be more awkward if the flat is in a listed building. You have to apply for permit and authorities will check your proposal thoroughly. Most owners decide to let the whole construction thing go. Saves money and neurons this way. Our Client gave the green light, however, so her bit illogical, bit disproportionate downtown apartment went through a thorough revitalization. ZOA got rid of unnecessary corridors, made room-to-room connections more rational and filled the whole space with lively color furthermore. Now she says it was worth it…
3-bedroom house, Szentendre |
22nd Feb 2008 |
Our Client chose a plot at the foot of the picturesque Pilis mountains, right above the Szentenrde Skanzen, on a sunny southern slope to build a new 3-bedroom house. It was a pleasure to design a house for such a nice plot. ZOA devided the mass of the garage and the mass of the other parts by a little elevation difference in accordance with the slope. ZOA imposed a standard public / private separation when designing the layout. The house overlooks the magnificent view with its longer elevation. High standards of the construction and quality materials account for a pleasant and friendly home.
Day Spa in a Loft |
4th Jul 2007 |
This day spa is going to help relaxing both the residents of the Jazz Loft condominium at the feet of the Buda hills in Budapest and those that only drop in to have a nice massage. This sub project of the vast real estate investment was handled as a priority by the Client. ZOA had to fill the space reserved for the spa with the right functions and spaces that add up a good place for relaxation. Final layout is a result of a long-lasting arbitration process between the Client and ZOA.
We did our best to create a rational order that fits in the geometrical limits in the plan that was the result of many functional and technological connection. The program includes a small size foyer that is connected with the sauna through the changing rooms. After leaving the sauna one enters a relaxation room that is connected to all the massage rooms in the shop. This central room has direct connection to the garden which gives way to create a really nice and intimate interior space. There is also a room for the whirlpool that can be used publicly or rented for private occasions.

Club Play |
10th Aug 2006 |
An old flaxmill building is more or less ideal for a serious party place with lot of music and a huge dancefloor. The ambitious project manager knew no bounds which was a key to forward the project to the opening party in one year. The place then called Club Nonsense now Club Play has a decent place on the map of Budapest night life. To put a new function with a niumber of technological requirements into an old building takes a lot of tricks and devoted team. Fire regulations, parking kitchen technology to list the most demanding ones of the task. Finally everything was in place. Since the beginning interior design was reviewed too, as no striking scenery could be financed in the first phase…

6-bedroom house, Veresegyház |
18th Jul 2006 |
Our Client decided to build a house for his growing family. The house incorporates two apartments indeed, so that generation living together shall not completely loose their individuality. The vast program could only be implemented into a 3-storey layout, but the steep slope let us have a nice little mass compared to the size of the interior. We did our best to to form this house using the old rural archtecture reloaded, so that it be a compact and simple little house.
